Understanding Perkins

Perkins V is here

Perkins V is short for the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act. This is a federal grant that provides funds for approved career and technical education programs. In Minnesota, funds are distributed on the basis of state-approved career and technical programs and appropriate teacher licensure.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in our consortium schools can receive funding to promote professional development, student attainment of academic and technical skills, upgrading of equipment, school-and-work-based experiences and career counseling and guidance.

Target areas that Perkins explores are:

  • High school to college transition

  • Programs of study

  • Accountability

  • Collaboration

  • Employer, community and education partnership

  • Service to special populations
